Helping Kids Overcome Bedwetting
Bedwetting has become commonplace in our society. Unfortunately, most doctors tell parents that the child will eventually “grow out” of the problem. But in the meantime, the child can suffer through their teen years and even into adulthood. The shame and embarrassment they carry leave them feeling isolated and unable to participate in social activities like slumber parties or camping. And for the parents the extra work of washing linens and feeling helpless in finding a solution for their child can sometimes feel hopeless.
What Causes Bedwetting?
-
Disease affecting the bladder or nervous system
-
Physical misalignment of the pelvis
-
Weakness of the pelvic muscles that support the bladder
-
Nutritional problems
In our office, we have found that there is a nutritional solution for all but the most pathological cases. The nutritional problems begin with faulty digestion and utilization of nutrients in the diet. We have found that children who eat too much sugar have increased tendencies to bedwetting. Asthma and allergies are additional symptoms that can be attributed to the same issues. If we can restore vitamin and mineral imbalances associated with poor carbohydrate digestion and assimilation we can provide a common sense approach to no-disease problems.
In most cases, all that is needed is dietary modification and appropriate nutritional supplementation. With the patient’s cooperation, we have seen many cases resolve quickly and easily.
Don’t suffer in silence. For more information about how we can help, call our office today at 585-396-0527.
Caring For Children With Special Needs
I began my career as a health care provider almost 30 years ago. At that time “special needs” children were either limited to 1 or 2 children you heard about in your community or it was a very well-kept secret. I tend to think it was the former and that the number of children with special needs has increased at an alarming rate. With this in mind I believe it is important to discuss not only how we can best support these children in need, but also what, if anything, we can do to lessen their growing numbers.
So where do we begin? For 25 years I have looked for a means to help people achieve and maintain the highest level of health possible and to prevent disease. To develop a health care model as opposed to a sick care model that simply treats symptoms with drugs and deals with the more full blown problems as they appear.
The True Key To Health Is Digestion
What have I found? I have found that digestion is the overlooked key to health! After all, digestion is how we get nutrients from our food into our bodies to nourish our organ systems. And it is our poor food choices that cost us… which result in the body compensating somewhere (in our 10 organ systems) for what it is lacking. All SYMPTOMS result from this compensation, which is what we call Under-NUTRITION.
The ability of the cells, tissues and organs of the body to function at their highest level is totally nutrition dependent. But what if we don’t digest, absorb and eliminate properly?
By utilizing a 100 year old test called a 24 hour Urinalysis we can gather evidence of what your child is having a difficult time digesting, assimilating and eliminating. We can then make specific recommendations. Each child is unique and whether they present with the same special need or not the course of care is tailored to them specifically. This is not a “this for that” approach.
What is true for all of us is also true for our children with extra needs; the body ALWAYS works to maintain normal function. So whether the child presents with ADHD, allergies, autism, digestive disorders, anxiety, depression or immune problems, there must be a specific stress exhausting the body. The goal is the same. Find the source of stress, remove it, nourish the body and remove excess waste.
What Is Brain Based Wellness?
Next, we turn our attention to the function of the brain using a Brain Based Wellness Technique called Bal-A-Vis-X. Bal-A-Vis-X is an acronym for: Balance / Auditory / Vision eXercises. There are over 300 series of patterns which vary in complexity and are all deeply rooted in rhythm.
The use of the Bal-A-Vis-X program will help:
- learning disabled students to improve cognitive integration
- behaviorally disordered students “settle” their behavior
- the anxiety ridden child
- attention deficit AND hyperactive students to decrease impulsivity and increase attention span
It has been found that, through movement, a child’s brain and body can become integrated for their optimal state of learning and well-being. Ultimately, this means a child can cope with the stress and struggles of learning new information in the traditional school setting.
We utilize this program in our Children’s Wellness Program to enable the mind-body system to experience the natural symmetrical flow of a pendulum which brings about a state of systemic integration which then enables the child to function (see, hear, attend to, process, produce, etc.) at their best.

It’s All About Energy
Do you ever wonder why some people suffer from physical pain, some are emotionally drained and others struggle with weight challenges? And how about those people you know that suffer from a combination of these? We are all different. And the difference lies in our body’s ability to produce and use energy. It takes energy for our bodies to maintain an upright posture against gravity, to regulate blood sugar levels so we can manage our moods, and to digest our foods properly so that our brains are aware that nutrition has come into the body.
And where does this energy come from? The body converts carbohydrates, proteins and fats into energy. Vitamins, minerals and all the other supplements that currently make up a multi-billion dollar industry, are merely building blocks that must be delivered to the body by carbohydrates, proteins and fats in order to make energy – AND THAT TAKES ENERGY!
All symptoms are the result of energy deficiency caused by stress or by the demands that are being placed on the body that are more than it can handle. You see, we keep ourselves so busy and distracted that we never feel how lonely, hurt or mad we are. Nor do we pay attention to how we nourish ourselves; we don’t stop to attend to our physical discomforts until it’s too late. As a society we are constantly on the move, pushing through our days. We are human “doings” instead of human beings. And when we get too off balance we get symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, heartburn, joint stiffness, headaches, moods swings and insomnia.
These symptoms let us know that we have overdrawn our energy bank account. But where did you over draw your personal account? The body has 3 distinct areas that it needs energy to maintain. Or another way of saying it is, “The body has three types of stress that cause energy deficiency: mechanical, emotional and nutritional.” Your symptoms let you know that somewhere in your body you are robbing Peter to pay Paul. And we all know there is always a price paid for overdrawing one’s account. You may have overdraft protection but it only goes so far. Then what?
Well, I call this overdraft the gray area. The period between being and feeling healthy and receiving a diagnosis of disease from your primary care doctor. The problem is we don’t pay attention to this gray area. And this is where true health care and disease prevention lies. In my office this is where we focus our attention. We find out where your body is stressed and creating an energy deficiency. Once we know this, the treatment becomes obvious! Call our office today to find out where your body needs support to achieve optimal health and vitality.
Preparing for Pregnancy
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Have you ever thought it strange to give prenatal vitamins and minerals to a woman AFTER she becomes pregnant??
Prenatal nutrition should start several months BEFORE conception to get the bodies of both parents ready for a baby. Oftentimes, the nutritional status of the father is overlooked even though it will be an influence before and after conception. Both the mother and father should be in the best possible health before attempting to have a child.
Understanding Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies
Think of it this way: if a deficiency already exists in the mother when she becomes pregnant and nutritional support (prenatal vitamins) will not arrive for roughly another month after conception, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to play catch-up. This is because some of the most important fetal development happens within the first month. Many of my patients tell me that they eat a good diet. Well, if that is true, how do they develop vitamin and mineral deficiencies? The average American diet is not deficient in nutrients; it may not be a balanced diet but seldom is it deficient. Surprised? You shouldn’t be! The majority of our packaged food has been fortified with vitamins and minerals. The nutrition is there! What has not been replaced during processing are the naturally occurring enzymes.
So, if the problem is not a dietary deficiency, it must be ‘nutrient assimilation’ and that requires those missing enzymes. Enzymes are necessary to begin the digestive processes of absorption and utilization. Fat digestion and assimilation for both males and females is incredibly important as it concerns, not only conception, but also the development of the fetus. When fatty acids are not digested and assimilated, they become the problem with problem-pregnancies. In this day of great technological advances in fertility, essential nutrients take a backseat and are often entirely forgotten.
If you are preparing for pregnancy or are having difficulty with fertility you may have digestive problems. Call our office today if you would like to know your nutritional status. We can help!
Doing Your Part To Get Healthy And Stay Healthy
Two phrases to live by: When you learn, teach. When you get, give.
In our constantly changing world of healthcare, there is a rapidly increasing need for education. People are becoming desperate for answers, change, healing and wellness. You need only look at the multitude of drug commercials on television to get an idea of the “health” crisis we are in.
Are we going to the doctor for answers? After all, doctor in Latin means “teacher”. Are our doctors teaching us how to be healthy? I don’t think so. And if not to our doctors, where do we go for answers? Today people have to do their own homework, their own research about their health condition. Television provides information about potential drugs that may help, all while fueling the pharmaceutical industries hold on our level of wellness. Why? Because we are growing in desperation to feel good and live the life we dreamed.
Wellness Information
But let’s talk about wellness for just a minute. What does it mean to be well? We are encouraged as adults, and required as children to go for WELLNESS check-ups. And it’s a selling point of insurance policies to provide this at no cost. So we go. And are, in fact, happy to go to find out we are well. We are happy to find out that little Johnny or Susie is growing on the growth chart. But what does this all really have to do with our level of health? What do these doctor visits really tell us about what is going on inside our body or our children’s bodies? Wouldn’t you agree that the child you brought to the doctor at the age of 2 is certainly not the same body that you brought at 12?
Changes in the Adult Body
Our adult bodies are going through the same changes of breakdown, growth and repair, breakdown, growth and repair and so on. So, what happens when we are aging and the growth and repair is not quite normal yet, not quite abnormal enough for us to know anything is wrong? It’s the period of time between loss of normal body function and the discovery of disease. The year we go for that wellness check and things are not “well”. The year when the labs show one, or a combination of findings like high cholesterol, increased blood sugar, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, acid reflux disease, weight gain. Maybe the year when asthma, allergies or hormone imbalances are discovered. What happened? When did it happen? And more importantly, were you aware of it happening and tried a drug to covered it up?
Symptoms are the body’s early warning signal that it is not able to maintain health and needs help. Did you know that positive laboratory results mean that your body has already lost its ability to maintain health and that chronic degenerative disease has begun?
Urinalysis
We have all been taught to play the “wait and see” game of our health care system. And only because you don’t know that there is a way to determine your body’s level of health before your labs indicate a disease process is underway. It’s called a 24-hour urinalysis. It is the best screening procedure and early warning system available today to identify the reasons behind your symptoms – so you don’t just cover them up.
This test allows me to look at the body as a whole. I use a special test called a 24 hour urinalysis to see where in your body’s 10 organ systems you are struggling. It locates the cause of DIS-EASE.
Once the cause is known, the treatment becomes obvious! There is no guessing and it is individualized. It is not a “this for that” treatment of symptoms.
This is what I’ve learned and this is what I educate my patients about. In my office you will learn how to maintain health not cover up the early symptoms of disease. And it’s my sincere hope and desire for you and our community to benefit from this information by applying it to your life. Then you will experience the benefit of true wellness and pass it along or give the gift of health to another. Working together we can change our community one person at a time.
Food For Thought
“Rather than think in terms of calories, menus and diets, begin to think in terms of how food makes you feel. Foods should leave you feeling light, energized, revitalized– not heavy and dull.” ~ Dr. Howard Loomis, Jr.
Do you feel like your life is like running uphill? Do you push through your day, chronically exhausted, unable to stop, but running on fumes? Sadly, this is the typical day for many and how we feel comes down to how we fuel our bodies.
How Stress Affects Your Body
Unfortunately, when we are under stress we have a tendency not to make time to eat properly or eat at all. Therein lies our biggest problem and let me explain why. Would you agree that a car driving uphill would use more fuel to get to the top? Yes? Alright and would you also agree that the amount of waste that is produced is also increased? Yes? Ok, now let’s think about that same idea in terms of our bodies. Under stress (the hill), we require more energy to reach or maintain peak performance and at the same time we are producing more waste. When the body does not receive enough fuel to run its engine or processes it lets us know by producing symptoms. Common symptoms are: pain, fatigue, stiffness, sore joints, headaches and digestive complaints, to name a few. If you have any of these symptoms, your body is struggling. Don’t just cover them up until another symptom appears. The body is working hard just to tell you there is already a problem.
Let me help you find out where your body needs support. Once the cause is known, the treatment becomes obvious. Bring your body back into balance, restore health and enjoy the return of an energy-filled, pain-free lifestyle.
What Can Nutrition Do For You?
“The only work that will ultimately bring any good to any of us is the work of contributing to the healing of the world.” ~ Marianne Williamson
Change is in the air. Wouldn’t you agree? You only need stop and take a look around you to see the changes in the trees, the clouds, the flowers, the fields.
But, have you stopped to take a good look at yourself? When you look in the mirror do you see the see the same person you feel on the inside looking back? How about in a recent photo? Most of us, if answering honestly, are pretty sure the answer is a hard NO. And this is only our outward expression of change. What are you feeling internally? Fatigue, pain, digestive distress, difficulty sleeping?
Our bodies are constantly changing, breaking down and rebuilding. We are not the twenty or thirty somethings we once were. You know this. You see it in the mirror, how you feel in your bones, in your energy level. But are you proactive? Do you think about giving your body what it needs to constantly rebuild? Have you ever given it a thought? Do you ever think about what happens to the food you eat once it has crossed your lips into your body? Would you want to know if your body is unable to use the nutrients from the food you are eating to maintain its health?
Nutrition is the process by which we digest, absorb and assimilate food for growth, liberation of energy and tissue replacement and then excrete waste. It’s something most take for granted that has the biggest impact on how well we maintain not only our physical health and vitality, but our emotional and cognitive functions as well. The proper use of food is the key to regaining your health at any age and there is a simple test to find out how well your body is performing this extremely important task.
If you feel like you are not aging as gracefully as you had hoped, or are just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, call us to help investigate how your body is functioning.
